It is amazing how many significant sites from the annals of ancient history we have visited, passed or got close to so far. The visit to the Parthenon and associated Acropolis in Athens has been documented already. We bypassed by mere kilometres the scenes of the battles of Marathon and Thermopylae where the Greeks and the Persians slugged it out. We had lunch at Vergine where Philip, father of the legendary Alexander was assassinated and where Alexander was born and spent his early life, including being tutored by the legendary Socrates.
Just below the Philippi Acropolis (Remember: acro – edge, polis – city) was the spot where a key battle occurred between the Marc Anthony – Octavian alliance who defeated the Brutus – Cassius alliance. Apparently, Brutus directed the battle from the Philippi Acropolis. I’m assured also that we passed close to the location of the Battle of Actium, when Marc Anthony and Cleopatra, in a sea battle, were defeated by Octavian, who went on to declare himself Augustus Caesar.
A truly remarkable array of names and characters from our past.

I never thought i'd say it but i'm very jealous Dad!! Sunds great and now i can't wait to get over and see these things for myself! And i've never been under the impression that geology and chemistry 'dad facting' will ever stop!! :)
